Population 250, Blencoe was platted in
1881. In 1878 the Sioux City and Pacific Railroad built a
station. The town is believed to be named by a settler from Canada
who was working on the railroad. Blencoe was incorporated in
1891 and settled by many Scotch and Irish settlers. The first
post office and settlement was actually called "Bottoms", because of
its proximity to the Missouri River, and was located one-half mile
west of the present town.
Blencoe is located just off Interstate 29 just 45 miles south of
Sioux City, Iowa and 52 miles north of Council Bluffs. Energy
providers are MidAmerican Energy and Western Iowa Power Coop.
Union Pacific Railroad runs directly north and south through Blencoe.
Approximately 1189 acres of land have been designated eligible under
the Iowa Enterprise Zone Tax Incentive Program for development
